Georgia is known for its history and southern charm. The cities and streets in Georgia are the epitome of a southern inspired culture. Large oak tree lined streets, gentle streetlamps and a whole bunch of southern charm will be sure to captivate anyone who ventures to this part of the world. The Ray Charles song Georgia on my mind (1960), describes the State and ambience of Georgia. A slow melody with a sense of refined taste.

History

Battle for Atlanta by Christopher James (2019) Pixels.com

The state of Georgia was named after King George the second and served as a buffer zone between the English colonies and the Spanish settlement in Florida. Georgia was admitted to the Union in 1788 as the 4th state (1). Georgia was one of the first states to ratify the constitution and was a major powerhouse in the newly established government. During the Civil War the now capital Atlanta was burned to the ground during General William T. Sherman’s ” March to the Sea” campaign . This was to disrupt Confederate supply liners and cripple their combative efforts in the war.

Georgia is known to have a very diverse landscape as the states terrain ranges from mountains to seaside lowlands. This is partly due its to proximity to mountains and the ocean creating a very diverse topography. This also makes Georgia a beautiful state to travel thorough with countless small quaint towns, mountain and gorgeous lakes to see. Georgia has a subtropical climate which means it has hot and humid summers similar to Florida and mild winters with minimal to no snow fall or freezing temperatures.

Food

Georgia also has an amazing array of peach and pecan delicacies that one must try prior to departure. The sweets and treats are world renowned. This is due to its unique history and ability to grow a diverse array of crops such as peanuts, peaches and pecans. Just one of many reasons to travel to Georgia.

A Taste of Southern Charm

Savannah, GA – Great city with a lot to see and do. This town was designed for walking as there are many square parks that all have a historic monument or fountain. The must see in Savannah would be the Forsyth Park and water fountain, it is extremely famous and has been featured in many magazines and movies. I would also recommend a trip down the historic River Street. Great shopping and food are located here. Best place to eat at would be Treylor Park, I would recommend the PB&J wings.
